The Rwenzori Mountains, known as the Mountains of the Moon, rise along the Uganda–DRC border, featuring snow and glaciers at high elevations despite being near the equator. This demanding Central Circuit expedition takes you deep into the range, traversing diverse ecological zones from rainforests to unique afro-alpine landscapes with giant lobelias. Expect long hiking days, steep, muddy terrain, river crossings, and rapidly changing weather in one of Africa’s wettest mountain environments. The trek culminates in a summit attempt on Margherita Peak (5,109m), the highest point of Mount Stanley. This journey is an immersive experience in endurance and resilience through a remote and extraordinary mountain environment.
